Standards

Hi Reader

If you are new here, last month I shared how I hit a wall with my health, extremely tired, foggy, and running on autopilot. Since then, things have shifted Thank God.

The biggest update? My fatigue is 90% gone. I’ve learned the difference between being tired (manageable, normal) and being fatigued (debilitating, physically and emotionally). And honestly? Feeling tired feels like a gift compared to what I was battling before.

Phase 1 of my treatment plan 🪴was all about resetting my body, natural supplements, a lot of water, and eliminating sugar, dairy, fried food, gluten, most meat, and nuts. It was rough in the beginning frfr, but almost immediately, I started noticing changes. My energy returned, my mood lifted, and I began to feel more like myself. I’m enjoying my accomplishments more. I’m enjoying life internally more. And I’m committed to keeping this rhythm of wellness as the foundation for everything I build next.

And here’s the thing: once you experience that kind of breakthrough, you can’t go back. It’s like developing a new palate.

Quick story: When my man and I toured our very first open house, it happened to be a $4M home. From the chandeliers to the winding staircase to the kitchen (hands down the most beautiful kitchen I had ever seen in my life), everything was next level. After that, every single house we toured had to measure up. If it didn’t, we were like, “ummm naw lol .”

Our standard had been raised, and there was no way to look at things the same anymore. And just like with that first house, once you’ve experienced what true wellness feels like, you can’t settle for less. It’s a chance to raise your own standard whether that’s in your health, your mindset, or how you show up in life.

What this first Phase has taught me

  • Wellness and health is the foundation for everything else.
  • There’s a big difference between being tired and being fatigued.
  • Change feels rough at first, but the results come when you stay consistent.
  • Once your standard is raised, you can’t (and won’t) settle for less.
  • True success feels better when your body and mind are aligned.

I Challenge You This Week

  • Notice the difference between when you’re simply tired versus when you’re truly fatigued.
  • Eliminate one thing (a food, habit, social media, TV) any distraction that you know is draining you or slowing down your progress.
  • Pay attention to how your body and mind respond you might feel the shift faster than you think.

Remember, once you raise your standard for wellness and you really wanna change going back won’t even feel like an option.💕

🌿 Wellness Spotlight: Integrative Wellness Center – Livonia, MI
This is the wellness center that helped me uncover what was really going on.
If you're in Michigan and looking for a holistic approach, keep them on your radar. SN: most insurance doesn't cover this type of holistic care.

Some of the things that have become staples in my wellness journey:

💧The Mountain Valley Spring Water
I love the taste of this brand and staying hydrated is a must.

🥬 Greens
Collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, these have become a regular part of my meals. I sautéed the collards (so good).

🍉 Fruit
Fruit has always been a staple, but now it’s also my sugar replacement when I’m craving sweets (I call it the good sugar😅). Some of my favorites: mangos, watermelon, and grapes (seeded when I can find them).

🚶🏽‍♀️ Detroit Riverwalk
I walk the Riverwalk 4–5 times a week while the weather permits. It’s peaceful, energizing, and makes me feel connected. I started leaving my phone in the car so I can stay in the present. You will be surprised the things you notice when you are present.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Hot Yoga (on the radar!)
This is next on my list, I feel like it will help with tension. We’ll see! I’ll keep you posted. Have you tried it yet? Who's down to go with me???

📚 Books I’m Loving: Happy Money by Ken Honda
This book redefines how we think about money, beyond budgets and savings, it’s really about the energy and emotions we attach to it. Ken Honda shows how cultivating gratitude, mindfulness, and generosity around money can transform not just your finances, but your overall happiness. The book is teaching by practicing gratitude, mindfulness, and generosity with your finances, you can transform your relationship with money and bring more joy into everyday life.

So far, it’s really good, it's a short read and entertaining at the same time. I’m really enjoying how he takes you back to your childhood to uncover why we are the way we are with money. Once I reflected, I noticed that I’m content in a lot of areas when it comes to money sometimes too content, that can be both good and bad. Since reading the book, I’ve also realized there’s quite a bit of shame woven into my money story. I’ll dive more into that next month once I’ve finished the book. GET THE BOOK!!!

If you missed it, July’s Book Read was The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. I really enjoyed this one too! I find myself saying “Let Them” a lot whenever someone gets on my nerves or when I feel my anxiety creeping in. I just have to remember to say "Let them" in my head when people are around and not to their faces 😂😂😂😂

The ROI of Good Design

When we talk about adding value to your home, most people think of resale. Location, square footage, comps… all the usual suspects, which don't get me wrong are very important. But here’s the thing: design is often the secret weapon that boosts your property’s worth long before you ever think about selling.

Let’s start with the spaces everyone cares about most:

The Kitchen: Custom cabinets, sleek countertops, appliances, light fixtures and those patio doors that flood the room with natural light, they don’t just elevate your everyday cooking experience. They instantly tell buyers (and guests) “this home is high-quality.” Kitchens are the heart of the home, and investing here is one of the smartest financial moves you can make. Think classic instead of trendy!!!

The Bathroom: Swap out dated tile for porcelain or marble, add a spa-worthy soaking tub, a walk-in shower with modern fixtures, and suddenly your bathroom isn’t just functional it’s aspirational. And aspirational sells. Buyers see luxury. Guests see indulgence. Everyone sees value.

But here’s the kicker good design doesn’t just pay off when you sell. It can start paying dividends the moment you list your property as a rental.

Design = Bookings (and Better Rates)

In the world of Airbnb, and boutique rentals, first impressions happen online. Guests scroll through photos so fast and the listings that stand out? They’re the ones that look polished, intentional, unique and designed.

A kitchen that photographs like a magazine spread? More bookings.
A bathroom that feels like a spa? Higher nightly rates.
A cohesive design vibe that makes people want to Instagram your space? Return guests + 5-star reviews.

When your property feels curated and unique, people are willing to pay more, and they’ll happily tell their friends about the experience. Here’s a recent example of just that, a review from one of our Detroit properties. A guest who had just checked out was eager to share his 5-star experience. Just goes to show that it’s really about the effort you put into your projects.

When it comes to our properties, we put our all into the design and decorating, and it shows through our guest reviews.

But what if design and decorating is not your thing??? I get asked that all the time. My answer is: either hire someone to do it for you, utilize Pinterest for inspiration, or download an AI interior decorating app. There is always a way to make it happen.

The Double ROI🤩

🏘️Equity ROI: Every upgrade builds your home’s resale value.

🏘️Cashflow ROI: Those same upgrades boost your rental income right now.

The best part? You don’t have to choose. Smart design is the rare investment that lets you enjoy a beautiful space today, attract dream guests tomorrow, and walk away with a higher sale price whenever you’re ready to move on.

💡 Bottom line: In real estate, good design is never “just cosmetic.” It’s strategic. It’s profitable. And when done right, it pays you back.

If you’re thinking about getting into Airbnb, there’s one thing I’d pay way more attention to upfront… Location. And I don’t just mean the city. I mean the specific area within that city. Because every neighborhood is different. Some areas make sense for short-term rentals…Others just don’t, no matter how good the property looks. This is something we had to learn early on. Before even thinking about furniture, design, or listing it… You’ve got to ask: “Would someone actually want to stay...

I’ll be honest… The Airbnb side of things is pretty straightforward. Listing it, getting bookings, that part clicked pretty quickly. But what wasn’t simple? Actually getting the property ready. All of our places are Detroit land bank properties…Which basically means they started off pretty rough. Full gut renovations. We’re talking taking something completely dilapidated and turning it into a place someone would actually want to stay. And on top of that, figuring out where to even invest....

Our Airbnb When we purchased our investment property in Detroit, the plan was simple: long-term hold, traditional tenant, and steady income. But the more we learned about short-term rentals, the more we realized this could be a good opportunity. So we took the leap and converted our duplex into an Airbnb. Since then? It’s been really profitable and thats wild 🤯 especially when you consider where the property is: right on Dexter, in the heart of a neighborhood that was once considered a lost...
